School Improvement Plan

2013-2014 Modified November 26th, 2013

Goal: 100% of our students from SK to grade 8, will improve in reading, writing and mathematics.

Strategies:

  1. determine a focus area based on assessment data
  2. establish a baseline for every student in each focus area
  3. plan teaching/learning strategies

School Wide Focus Areas for Assessment:

  • Reading: critical thinking, narrative comprehension
  • Writing: Journal Writing, critical thinking
  • Mathematics: Critical thinking and problem solving in Number Sense and Numeration, focus on fact fluency in addition/subtraction, multiplication/division
  • Teaching/Learning Strategies: Teachers must consider the following in planning:
  • Critical Thinking
  • Problem Solving
  • Boys literacy
  • Identified Students

Assessment Timeline:

Primary:

  1. Reading: PM Benchmark, running records and comprehension questions monthly
  2. Writing: teacher moderation of written pieces, Writing samples, monthly moderation and check-ins
  3. Mathematics: teacher moderation of math assignments, data from REFLEX

Junior/Intermediate

  1. Reading: Casi/PM Benchmark for baseline, reading responses
  2. Writing: Write traits 6 traits for baseline, focus on specific traits
  3. Mathematics: ONAP Diagnostic, class data walls, intermediate (chapter tests diagnostic, mid chapter, summative)

Next Steps:

Class lists to office

  • Reading: Based on the timeline and tools indicated above, submit a class list that indicates reading level for every student, highlight target students and identified students.
  • Writing: Based on the timeline and tools indicated above, submit a class list that indicates writing level for every student, highlight target students and identified students.
  • Mathematics: Based on the timeline and tools indicated above, submit a class list that indicates the achievement level for every student based on a particular strand (indicate strand), highlight target students and identified students.

Questions

  1. Critical Thinking: How does this activity, assignment, or task promote critical thinking?
  2. Problem Solving: What problem solving opportunities has my class had this week?
  3. Boys literacy: What strategies and/or resources have I implemented this week to support this focus?
  4. Identified Students: How have you accommodated/supported the identified students in your class with this assignment/task?

THE EDGE Youth Group:  Calling  Grades 5, 6, 7 and 8's!!  Check out what living on “The EDGE” is all about. Join us as we kick off another new season with a FUN/SOCIAL Night ( free refreshments) on Monday, September 26, 2016, at 6:45 pm in the downstair’s hall of   St. Joseph’s Catholic Church,  Clark St. , Powassan.   THE EDGE is an awesome Catholic youth ministry that uses live music, drama, small group discussions, guest speakers, games, Scripture, crafts and other cool stuff to explore issues about our Faith, solid values, youth concerns and happy living!!  Double bonus: snacks and prizes! The EDGE meets  Monday evenings from 6:45 to 8:30 pm .    Every night has a different theme and activities.  If you are in  Grades 5, 6, 7, or 8, you SO need to be at the EDGE , regardless of what school or church you may attend, or where you live. And it's all FREE. Chill out with your friends and make new ones.  No need to pre-register.  Call Pauline @ 705-724-5964 or Jeannine @ 705-724-3424 for more information.
