Family Life Education

The Ontario Conference of Catholic Bishop's (OCCB) Family Life program, Fully Alive, is taught from grades 1-8 in conjunction with the catechetical series Born of the Spirit and We Are Strong Together for each grade level. Family Life makes up 20% of the Religion program occurring within one of the 30 minute Religion classes per week (4 Religion and 1 Family Life session per week). This program reflects the truth, morals and values of Catholic teaching. It is made up of 5 themes as follows:

  • Theme 1: Created and Loved by God emphasizes the dignity and meaning of each human life;

  • Theme 2: Living in Relationship addresses the relational nature of the human person, a reflection of God;

  • Theme 3: Created Sexual: Male and Female emphasizes the value of the individual and human relationships focusing on the goodness of our sexuality in its relational and procreative dimensions;

  • Theme 4: Growing in Commitment explores God's call to faithfulness; and

  • Theme 5: Living in the World examines the meaning of human activity and its influence on human society and on the individual.

The themes for each grade level build on the content covered in the previous year. Topics within each of the themes are studied at deeper levels with each succeeding grade.
